School Year Calendars

NKSD's school calendar is established in cooperation with staff and the School Board. The calendar is set well in advance so that families can synchronize their activities with school schedules. Please note: Weather-related makeup days are added to the end of any school year or as noted on the calendar.

Important Dates:

  • September 2: First Day for Grades 1 - 12
  • September 5 - First Day for Kindergarten
  • December 22 - January 2: No School - Winter Break
  • April 6 - April 10: No School - Spring Break
  • June 18: Last Day of School - Half Day Dismissal

*Some dates are subject to change (e.g. conferences, professional development) in Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • October 29-31 Parent Conferences: No School for Preschool
  • December 19 - January 2: No School - Winter Break
  • April 1-3: Parent Conferences: No School for Preschool
  • April 6 - 10: No School - Spring Break
  • June 5: Last Day of School

School Hours

All schools have a 60-minute early release schedule each Wednesday.

Elementary School (Kindergarten through Grades 5)

Regular Schedule: 9:20 a.m. to 3:50 p.m.
Wednesday Early Release Schedule: 9:20 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.
Conference Half Day Release (10/25/23 and 3/20/24 only): 9:20 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.
Half Day Release: 9:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
Only breakfast is served on half days. No lunch service.

Regular Schedule: 8:05 a.m. to 2:35 p.m.
Wednesday Early Release Schedule: 8:05 a.m. to 1:35 p.m.
Half Day Release: 8:05 a.m. to 11:05 a.m.
Only breakfast is served on half days. No lunch service.
